Reviews by Educator

The content in the Adventures with Forces is very rich, reflecting the authors’ extensive research and collation of science facts about forces of all types we experience in our daily life. The narration with comic storytelling style is engaging not just for children but also for parents and teachers. It is a wonderful book for learning the science and applications of forces in nature as well as manmade environment or facilities. There are many nuggets of knowledge and historical records of scientific discoveries, experiments or events scattered throughout the book, making the learning and appreciation of forces come alive! The elastic forces working for the structure and function in our body anatomy is among some of the clever topics, illustrating the creative thought process by the authors.

We had a great time reading “Adventures with Energy" so there was lots of excitement when “Forces” was released. Eldest finished the latest book in 2 days and it has been his regular read since then. It’s brilliant of the authors to leverage on daily snippets in life to explain and illustrate complex science concepts. The vacuum cleaner example resonates with kids well. Learning should be fun and enjoyable. This book brings out the essence of learning through real-life experiences.

Adventures with Forces

The 80-page full coloured comic book is a collection of 11 absorbing stories of three families, their pets, and a time-travelling parrot as they explore the properties and application of forces. The book is packed with nuggets of interesting facts and is aligned with the MOE and Cambridge Science syllabus.  The chapters look at various types of contact and non-contact forces and end up with looking at forces around us and how forces are used to do work for us:

  1. May The Forces Keep You Going

  2. A Travelling Tail

  3. Contact Forces At Home

  4. Fascinating Friction
